Neu! Reekie! 32 goes Glasgow, Baby, for The Holy Show on Sat 13th April with our much-loved westside amigos at The Poetry Club.

Featuring exclusive preview of author Alan Bissett’s forthcoming one man show; Scottish hiphop with Young Fathers playing live; Glasgow-based poet and novelist Kirsty Logan; and our very own pop ultras Jesus, Baby.

There are other pop culture, avante garde, filmic, animated pursuits but these will be revealed on the night to the cognisanti.

Kevin Williamson took to the stage on Burns Night to perform an explosive version of The Bard’s epic poem Tam o’ Shanter, accompanied by Craig Lithgow (guitar) and David McFarlane (violin). Here it is in all its glory, 25 minutes of devilish cantraip intensity. Kevin reflects afterwards to Summerhall TV on the poem and the trio’s performance. (Fri 25th Jan, 2014)

Neu! Reekie! #26 is on Thurs 22 Nov 2012 at The Poetry Club in Glasgow’s SWG3 complex. Performing live are Scotland’s wonderful Makar Liz Lochhead, and the amazing Glasgow band Remember Remember.

Animator Will Anderson will be introducing his award winning short - and 2013 Oscar long-listed, oh yes! - The Making of Longbird.

We’re also celebrating Bertolt Brecht in song - with Leo Condie of The Low Miffs - and in poetry, film and music with actor Tam Dean Burn. An epic night awaits!

Hosted by Neu! Reekie! on 17th Aug 2012, in a sold out bear pit of an auditorium at Summerhall in Edinburgh, two crack teams of writers - Team Edinburgh and Team Chicago - went head to head in a story slam.

Refereed by Gavin “Boaby The Barman” Mitchell, Team Edinburgh narrowly edged a win against the Chicago Boys.

Team Edinburgh: Kevin Williamson (capitano), Alan Bissett, Jenni Fagan, Gordon Legge & Irvine Welsh.

Team Chicago: Irvine Welsh (capitano), Bill Hillman, Enid Mruiz, John Hemingway, Brian Murphy. (Welsh was batting for both sides).

As can be seen from Ryan McGovern’s wonderful photos in this video put together by Kevin Williamson a Beegeetastic great night was had by all.

Neu! Reekie! wundergrupen Jesus, Baby were in session on Marc Riley’s BBC6 show last night (Tues 11 09 12). The guys and gal spoke about the project, the band and played three songs live, including two new ones.

A: Number 3. The others actually understand their direct lineage back to Plato’s Caves allegory in The Republic.

In the animation above Plato’s Caves text is narrated by Orson Welles. In our hesitant new quantum era of scientific uncertainty Plato’s text has become even more relevant and more visionary. The animation is pretty good too.

A highlight of Neu! Reekie! #14 was when Teenage Fanclub frontman Norman Blake is joined on stage by Duglas T Stewart of BMX Bandits for a wonderfully bizarre cover of the Velvet Underground’s ‘What Goes On’ Complete with mandolin, kazoos and stylophone!
